Pitso Reacts To Win Ahead Zamalek & Downs Clashes

Pitso Mosimane has stated that a bit of pressure dropped off his and Al Ahly’s shoulders after returning to winning ways ahead of the Cairo derby and facing Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.

The ‘Club if the Century’ beat fifth-placed Al Ittihad 2-1 on Thursday night and were in control of the game for most parts of the 90 minutes.

The victory helped Al Ahly to stay within touching distance of Zamalek, who sit four points ahead of them but have played two games more.

Both sides will now meet on Monday in the derby and Mosimane explained that last night’s victory was important after they had dropped some points in the previous games.

“We now feel a little relaxed after the victory today. We went through a difficult time. We were playing well but we weren’t winning,” he said after the match, as per Kingfut.

“Sometimes playing well does not help us, and when you do not win, it affects your confidence.

“We scored a goal and followed it with another, then a third goal, unfortunately, was not counted due to offside, and when you lead in result with two goals without a response, this makes you feel confident and there is comfort even in making substitutions.”

Mosimane, though, was not happy seeing his side concede a late goal following a set piece.

“The goal we conceded means we lost focus, and it came through a free kick, we have to work on fixing that.”

Al Ahly now sit on 40 points on the Egyptian Premier League log, four behind Zamalek, who they face in the Cairo derby on Monday.

Next week Friday, the defending champions will welcome ‘Jingles’ former side in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final in Egypt.
