Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have dropped points for a second time in three games, suffering a huge blow in the title race.
Al Ahly fell four points behind leaders Zamalek after drawing 0-0 with El Gaish on Tuesday evening. As a consequence, Al Ahly now sit four points behind their bitter rivals on the log.
Al Ahly had their first real chance of the first half after 30 minutes when Hamdi Fathi’s header following a free-kick by Ali Maaloul sailed past the post.
Mosimane’s side came very close to scoring in the 38th minute when a looping header was cleared off the line via bicycle kick.Â
The Al Ahly coach vehemently asked the referee for a VAR review to check whether ball had crossed the line but it was not given.
Both teams entered the break goalless, while the second half also started slow.
Al Ahly pushed for an opener without really creating any real chances, as time ran away from the defending champions.
Ahmed Samir almost made it 1-0 El Gaish in the 80th minute but his attempt was saved by Mohamed El Shenawy.
Al Ahly missed two great chances in the 88th minute with Walter Bwalya not connecting onto a cross inside the five-yard box before a header was spectacularly saved by the El Gaish goalkeeper.
Mosimane’s men now sit on 69 points on the log, while Zamalek climbed 73 points following their win over Wadi Degla tonight.
