Pitso’s Al Ahly Suffer Huge Blow In Title Race
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have suffered a huge blow in the Egyptian title race after dropping two points against Ismaily, falling into second place behind Zamalek.
Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring after 22 minutes when a defence-splitting pass by Ali Maaloul set up Afsha, who passed it square to the striker, who just had to convert in the empty net.
Sherif, however, had to be substituted with an injury later after 39 minutes in the first half, with Walter Bwalya replacing him.
Overall, though, the first half lacked highlights and Al Ahly carried their slender lead into the break.
Bwalya looked like he was past the Ismaily keeper just after the break but he was still stopped by a defender.
Ismaily equalised in the 65th minute when Fakhereedine Ben Youssef converted a superb header past Mohamed El Shenawy.
Al Ahly kept on pressing for a winner but the ball didn’t want to fall into the right places today.
Taher Mohamed had the best chance in the 89th minute but his attempt was saved by the goalkeeper. Afsha’s shot in the 92nd minute sailed past the post.
