Ribeiro Suffers New Low In Spain

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Lucas Ribeiro Costa and his side Cultural Leonessa have dropped to the bottom of the LaLiga 2 log after suffering a 4-0 defeat to FC Andorra on Sunday.

Ribeiro joined the LaLiga 2 side after terminating his contract with Masandawana, with his case still in front of the FIFA tribunal.

However, he has received a clearance by FIFA and started playing for his new club in Spain – initially starting off well, even earning the club’s Player of the Month award in November after scoring two goals and setting up one more.

But the club’s fortunes have heavily changed since, as Leonassa have fallen down the log and are now routed at the bottom with 28 points from 32 games.

Leonassa are now without a win in 15 league matches, collecting just five points since December 25. To make matters worse, Ribeiro himself also missed a penalty in the 4-0 defeat to FC Andorra, as his spot-kick was saved by Jesus Owono.

Ribeiro has featured in 23 games for the LaLiga 2 side, scoring three times and assisting one more, as his first season in Europe has taken a turn to the worse for the Brazilian.

Leonessa have 10 games to save themselves from relegation but the gap to Real Valladolid in 18th place has already grown to eight points.
