Manchester City midfielder Rodri has issued a response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s claim that the Ballon d’Or was ‘unfair’ after the Spanish star was awarded the prize ahead of Vinicius Jr in October.
‘CR7’ was very vocal about his displeasure and seemed to question the credibility of the historic awards ceremony while he was attending the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards recently.

Vinicius Jr scooped the Best Men’s Footballer of the Year, while Rodri had claimed the equivalent award at the Ballon d’Or held in Paris.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, who himself has won five Ballon d’Ors, insisted that the Brazilian superstar should’ve received the honour for his incredible achievements in 2024.
“Vinicius Jr should have won the Ballon d’Or, in my opinion it was clear,” Ronaldo said at the time.
“It was unfair. This is why I love Globe Soccer Awards, they are honest.”
Rodri labelled Ronaldo’s statement as a “surprise” in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS.

“Well, it was a surprise, really, because he knows better than anyone how this award works and, above all, how the winner is chosen,” Rodri said, according to Daily Mail.
“This year, the journalists who vote have decided that I should win it.
“Probably, these same journalists were the ones who at some point voted for him to win it, and I imagine that then he would have agreed.”
