Cristiano Ronaldo has said playing without fans can be boring, and he even misses being booed by football supporters.
Ronaldo was speaking at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards, where he was named the Player of the Century by the organisation.
The 35-year-old was selected for this award beating out Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Mohamed Salah.
Ronaldo says not having supporters at the games is tough, but he hopes that they will return soon.
“For me, I have to be honest, to play in an empty stadium is boring in my opinion,” Ronaldo was quoted as saying at the conference.
“We, the players respect all the protocol and health is most important of all, of course, but I don’t like it.”
“I do it because first of all I love football. My passion is always football, I play for my family, my kids, my friends and for the fans. But I don’t like it to be honest, it’s weird to play without (them).”
“I like when the people boo Cristiano. When I touch the ball, they ‘boooo!’ I like it! I’m motivated by that.”
But its not good, and I hope in 2021 they can change the rules and see the stadiums full of people. Because the passion without fans is nothing.”
