Shane Booysen, a South African footballer who is considered one of the top stars in the Cambodian league, has been admitted to hospital due to a serious medical condition.
Booysen has reportedly been fighting for his life after suffering an undisclosed issue, though some parties have reported it was a stroke.
Booysen has been playing in Cambodia since 2014, and was considered a star player wherever he played. He had most recently been playing for National Police FC, but prior to that played for Phnom Penh Crow and Boeing Ket Football club, amongst others.
The 32-year-old from Cape Town started his junior career at Seven Stars, and then Ajax Cape Town, when the club was formed with Stars and Cape Town Spurs. From Ajax he went to Hellenic before moving to Tshwane to join Mamelodi Sundowns’ youth at 17. But it didn’t quite work out and a few years later he was back at Ajax.
His first taste of senior football though was on loan at Ikapa Sporting, but after their relegation, he found himself in the football wilderness, until he took an odd route of going to Asia, first Thailand and then Cambodia.
Many fans, former teammates, coaches and his former clubs have been sending well wishes on Facebook.
iDiski Times join in and wishes Booysen a speedy recovery.
