Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has tested positive for COVID-19, the Egyptian FA have announced.
The Egypt forward is currently on international duty, and it was confirmed by the country’s FA on Friday afternoon that his test had been positive, despite not showing any symptoms.
A statement from the Egyptian FA on Twitter read: “The medical swab conducted… showed that our international player, Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, was infected with the coronavirus, after his test came positive . Although he does not suffer from any symptoms. While the other members of the team were negative.”
This will come as a major blow to Jurgen Klopp, as the Reds boss has already lost Sadio Mane and Thiago to positive tests earlier this season, while defender Joe Gomez suffered a potential long-term injury on international duty with England – this on top of the already lengthy absence of Virgil van Dijk.
