Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero was named in the official Gulf Pro League Team of the Season but missed out on the Best Foreign Player award.
The 31-year-old can look back at a stellar campaign during which he started all but one game for Al Jazira, helping them to claim their third league title.
Serero was one of 10 nominees for the Best Foreign Player at the UAE Pro League Awards, but was beaten to the prize by Al-Wahda striker Joao Pedro.
The Brazilian scored 18 goals and assisted another three to clinch the individual accolade.
However, Serero’s fine performances didn’t go unnoticed as he was named into the official Team of the Season, being one of five players from his side to be selected.
Serero had already been named the Best Foreign Midfielder in the league, while also being named as the Best Foreign Player by his own club.
The former Ajax Cape Town and Ajax Amsterdam midfielder made 29 appearances in the league in 2021/22, missing just one game.
