Shocked Simba Coach Explains Chiefs Rout

A shocked Didier Gomes tried to explain his side’s bad day in their 4-0 thrashing by Kaizer Chiefs.

The French manager saw his side concede four goals without a response at the FNB stadium on Saturday.

Not many expected Amakhosi to come up with such a brilliant performance after winning just two of their last 15 games in the DStv Premiership, but Gomes insisted that his team did not underestimate Gavin Hunt’s men.

“It [Chiefs domestic run] is not a good reason to explain how we played today,” he told journalists in his post-match press conference.

“We don’t have an excuse. Like I said, we were not tough enough for this kind of match.

“It is very important to be very aggressive, very, very tough, particularly in the air duels.

“And about Kaizer Chiefs, we knew very well that even if they are in a bad position in their local league, like I say before the match Kaizer Chiefs is a very good team.

“It is a very offensive, very good offensive compartment and today they have done another clean sheet, so they prove that they are solid [at the back]

“So even with their bad situation in their league, we didn’t underestimate them.”

Despite the heavy scoreline, Gomes didn’t want to rule out a “miracle” in the second leg, saying his players need to believe they can overturn the first-leg defeat.

“I don’t know everything can happen in football. For sure,” he added.

“For sure we are very disappointed, but you know we are in life, we breath and when you breath you have hopes. So we keep our mind for that, it’s very important to believe that we can change the process.

“But for sure if we want to do something good, next week  we have to be aggressive, efficient. And we don’t know what can happen in football. But for sure Kaizer Chiefs is in a good way.”

The Glamour Boys will travel to Tanzania for the second leg in Dar es Salaam next week Saturday.
