Tau’s Scores As Ahly’s Perfect Record Continues
Pitso Mosimane made it five wins from five with Al Ahly as their perfect start to the 2021/22 Egyptian Premier League continued with a 3-2 win over Ghazi El-Mahalla on Monday.
Mosimane was without Hamdy Fathi – who scored the winner in the 1-0 win over Al Mokalwoon on Friday – for the clash at the El-Mahalla Stadium.
However, his absence wasn’t felt as they eased to victory with goals from Mohamed Magdy Afsha in the first half and a stunning effort from Percy Tau early in the second.
It marked his third goal in his fifth consecutive start under Mosimane as he looks to be regaining his form and fitness after a difficult spell on the sidelines with Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion last season.
Abdel Kader Yehia pulled one back for the home side just before the hour mark which looked like it was going to be nothing more than a consolation but a 90th-minute own goal from Akram Tawfik threw a spanner in the works.
Not to be denied to steal the show, veteran wing-back Ali Maaloul scored a deflected free-kick in the last seconds of the thrilling encounter.
The victory keeps the Red Devils at the summit of the Egyptian top-flight, two points ahead of second-placed Pyramids and six ahead of champions Zamalek who are in third – albeit having played one game over their rivals.
