Legendary Dutch striker Marco Van Basten says that Lionel Messi’s form this season has been poor.
Van Basten, who was appearing on Ziggo Sport with another former Dutch star Youri Mulder, was speaking after Barcelona’s loss to Atletico Madrid on the weekend.
“He’s just playing badly now,” Van Basten was quoted as saying on tribalfootball.
“Messi and Antoine Griezmann play like a bunch of cake bakers.”
“He will undoubtedly be bothered by the fact that there is no audience. He is not happy with the situation in and around Barcelona. And then also that hassle with Griezmann. It’s an accumulation. We don’t see the person we know.”
Messi is being rested this week in the UEFA Champions League, and was not included in Barcelona’s squad for their game against Dynamo Kyiv.
