‘We’ve Done It Vs Pirates, We Can Do It Vs Al Ahly’
Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has insisted his side has shown in the recent thrashing of Orlando Pirates they can win big games.
The Masandawana tactician addressed local media ahead of Saturday’s second against defending champions Al Ahly when they will have to overturn a 2-0 away defeat.
Mngqithi expressed a lot of confidence in his team, saying they have shown in games like their recent 4-1 victory over Pirates or the 5-0 win over Saturday’s opponents in 2018/19 that they have what it takes to turn the tie around.
“If we don’t score one early, 45 minutes can be enough to score two goals, 20 minutes can be enough to score goals. 10 minutes are enough, even seven minutes are still enough to score two goals,” he told local media.
“So the throughout the match we will fight to make sure that we turn the result around.
“We are not going to leave it to chance, we are going to give it our best shot. We cannot afford to be over-anxious, we cannot afford to be over-serious because we will do a lot of mistakes.
“We have to try to do the business and we have done that match-in and match-out. Not especially on where everybody has said it is a mission impossible. That’s when we’ve always turned out differently.
“When we had no break in the championship and we had to play so many games, game after game, we got one game where we had four days instead of three days rest and the next game was Pirates, who had not lost a game in Orlando.
“And what did we do, we turned the tables. Because we’ve got the capacity. We’ve got games that we can put as reference. This team has got the capacity to turn the tables. To score four or three goals in Orlando is not something that everybody can do but Sundowns can do it.
“If there is any team that can beat Al Ahly 5-0, it’s Sundowns, because we’ve done it before.”
Sundowns welcome Al Ahly and former coach Pitso Mosimane at the Lucas Moripe Stadium at 15:00 on Saturday.
