Wydad Coach Complains Ahead Of Chiefs

Wydad Casablanca coach Faouzi Benzarti has complained about his side’s heavy fixture schedule ahead of their CAF Champions League semi-final first leg against Kaizer Chiefs.

The 71-year-old joined the Moroccan giants in 2020 and has them in great form ahead of the clash with Amakhosi.

Wydad sit at the top of the Botola Pro log and are unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions.

However, Benzarti is not happy with his side’s heavy fixture schedule after they had to play on Sunday and Wednesday this week before facing the Glamour Boys on Saturday..

“We play every two days and I personally think it’s too much for the players, too much from a physical point of view and too much stress,” he said during his pre-match press conference.

“We had requested to postpone some of our matches, but unfortunately it wasn’t granted.

“But worldwide, when a club is playing in a final or a semi-final, they get their (domestic) matches postponed (by the FA) but it was not the case with us.

“Lately I’ve not been very comfortable because of all the stuff happening in the team in the different competition, but we will do our best honour the competition and the history of the club.”

Despite his side’s heavy fixture schedule, Wydad have collected eight wins and five draws from their last 13 games.
