Wydad Continue Unbeaten Run, But Show Weakness
Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Champions League semi-final opponents Wydad Casablanca have continued their impressive unbeaten run, but also shown some weakness in their final match before facing Amakhosi.
The Moroccan giants have not lost any of their last 13 games in all competitions, with their last defeat dating back to 26 April.
They have won eight and drawn five matches over this run, and are sitting at the top of the Botola Pro log.
However, they suffered a minor blow on Wednesday after drawing 0-0 with bottom-placed Renaissance Club.
It was Wydad’s third goalless draw over their 13-game unbeaten run and came as a surprise after they had scored nine goals in their previous two fixtures.
Chiefs will need to be wary of Wydad striker Ayoub El Kaabi, who is the leading goalscorer in the Moroccan top flight, having scored 12 goals this season so far.
The two-time champions welcome the Glamour Boys in Morocco on Saturday, while the second takes place one week later in South Africa. Both team already met in the group stages when Wydad beat Amakhosi 4-0 in the home leg before the PSL giants collected an important 1-0 victory at the FNB Stadium.
