Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have qualified for the COSAFA region finals despite not being in action on Thursday.
The defending champions had dropped points for the first time during the COSAFA finals, drawing 1-1 with Double Action Ladies from Botswana in their last match.
As a consequence, Masandawana needed to worry that Double Action would beat Mozambique’s Costa Do Sol by a score better of their own 8-1 win in order to progress.
However, Double Action only managed to secure a 2-0 win on Thursday, which sees them match Sundowns’ four points on the log, but the South African side progress based on the much better goal difference.
As winners of Group A, Sundowns will now face Group B winners, Green Buffaloes from Zambia, who won both their group stage games 4-0, in the final of the COSAFA region.
COSAFA also confirmed that, as defending champions, Downs have already booked their spot in the CAF Champions League finals, which will take place in Morocco, meaning Green Buffaloes have also booked their ticket, even in case they should lose the COSAFA region final.
