Maritzburg United head coach Ernst Middendorp was not amused by certain events from the linesman in their 4-1 defeat over Orlando Pirates in their DStv Premiership clash.

United went down at Orlando Stadium after a Thembinkosi Lorch masterclass which saw him open the scoring and supply assists for Kwame Peprah, Deon Hotto and Kabelo Dlamini, while in-from Zambian striker Friday Samu netted a consolation for the visitors.

But after the game, speaking to SuperSport TV, Middendorp said it was an entertaining game which he would like to take a second look at some of the decisions – he also lauded his side who retained their top-flight status after beating Baroka 1-0 over the weekend.

“It was quite entertaining, I would like to see some of the off-side decisions in particular the third goal they scored, we were just coming into the game in the second half,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.

“But good to the entertainment element [it] belongs to the linesman who knocked a player down, we have seen a lot but let’s put the fun to the side, it was very crucial for us, the Saturday game, we put a lot of energy in, lets put it that way. Keagan Ritchie, Man of the Match, extremely high data from a number of players, Lucky [Baloyi], Keagan, Nico [Lukubheni]…”

United finished in 12th place in the 16-team division, four points off the drop zone with seven wins, ten draws and 13 defeats in the 30 games played.
