Fans called him “The God of football” after he made a name for himself at Pretoria Callies, for whom he played for in the NPSL.
In 1973, he was named Sportsman of the Year after a memorable performance for the NPSL Invitation XI against a selected British All Stars XI led by Rodney Marsh.
He joined Orlando Pirates in 1981, although by then he was already suffering from the effects of persistent knee injury.
He had been using a wheelchair for some time and died in his home in Atteridgeville.
