Cape Town City Car Hijacked

Cape Town City’s car got hijacked in Cape Town, Nyanga as their Under-18 team were on the way to a friendly match against Everton FC.

City’s U18 side are busy preparing for the upcoming Engen Knockout Challenge in Cape Town that is set to take place next weekend in Langa.

They arranged a friendly match as part of their preparation against one of the township teams in Nyanga, Everton FC as they normally do.

The game was supposed to kick-off at 17:00 but had to be cancelled after the City vehicle was hijacked on their way to the venue, when the coach and five players were being held at gun point and forced out of the car.

Their belongings including boots, cellphones and passports were stolen. The players and coach were unharmed but are very traumatised.

City’s Head of Football Development and Recruitment Grant Veitch, who is known in the townships because of his work with the club, was left heartbroken by the disturbing incident.

“We were trying to do the right thing by going into the community to play [there], as a lot of our youth players are from the Cape Town townships,” Veitch told iDiski Times.

The vehicle was later discovered in Phillipi just before 19:00 and all belongings were missing.
