Chiefs To Meet Pirates In Legends Soweto Derby

A team of Kaizer Chiefs legends will take on Orlando Pirates legends on Saturday afternoon in Dondotha Kwa-Zulu Natal, in a game to inaugurate a Stadium in the name of former Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni.

The local Umfolozi Municipality is inaugurating a sports complex for the local community in honour of Sangweni who played for Pirates between 2011 and 2016.

Former Amakhosi midfielder Thabo ‘Tsiki Tsiki’ Mooki will be in dugout, assisted by Tshepo Molatedi and has called up several new faces to the Chiefs legends team.

“We always try to have new players travel with us this time around we welcome Tefu Mashamaite, Willard Katsande, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Bevan Fransman and Thuso Phala,” he told the club’s media team.

“We have a well-balanced team and we are excited to honour a player like Sangweni who was always competitive when we played against him.

“For the fans we had Collins Mbesuma with us for the first time. We created wonderful memories together in the 2004-05 season and it is good to team up with him again and let the fans see him in a Chiefs shirt again.

“We have a strong front along with Collins, we also have Siyabonga Nomvethe and David Radebe.”

Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung feels the game allows Amakhosi to connect with more of their fans.

“Over the past year our legends team has played in Malamulele, Ulundi and Emalahleni, these engagements have allowed us to connect with our fans in areas where our first team would not normally play,” she added.

“We are pleased to feature in a place where once again our fans get to interact with the team, we know games against Pirates are always entertaining and we expect this one to keep to the script.”
