Ubuntu Make Their Mark On Day 1 At Bayhill

Ubuntu Academy stole the show on day one of the Bayhill Premier Cup with a comprehensive 9-0 win over Westridge FC in the opening game of the tournament.

It was the ideal way to start for Kris Bergman’s team, who dominated the game from the kick-off, and four players scored braces in the big win in Group B.

In Group F, it was also a good start for Cape Town Spurs, last year’s finalists and winners in 2022, as they beat Everton FC.

But in Group D, another early favourite, Stellenbosch FC could only manage a 1-1 draw with Rebels FC.

In the final game of the day, also a Group B game, there was a minor upset, as Cape Town City fell to a 1-0 defeat to SAFA Cape Town Academy, a squad made up of invited players from teams who missed out in the qualification playoffs.

All Day One’s Results:

Ubuntu Academy 9-0 Westridge FC

Young Bafana 1-0 Clover FC

Hanover Park 2-2 Rygersdal

SSS Academy 1-0 Elsies River

Cape Town Spurs 3-0 Everton FC

Stellenbosch 1-1 Rebels FC

Greenwood Athletic 1-2 FC Porto

Cape Town City -0-1 SAFA Cape Town Academy.
