12 Suspended For PSL Opening Weekend

As many as nine players and three officials will miss the opening weekend of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership and GladAfrica Championship, the PSL have confirmed.

Suspensions from the previous PSL and DDC campaigns are being carried over, meaning several players will not be allowed to take to the field this weekend.

Among them is new AmaZulu signing Tercious Malepe, who joined Usuthu from FK Minaj in Ukraine. 

However, the 24-yer-old is still suspended from his previous stint at Chippa United, where he played on loan from Orlando Pirates, and will miss AmaZulu’s clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cape Town City will miss Lonwabo Magugwana against SuperSport United, while Baroka will be without Joslin Kamatuka and Senkonto Bernard Bobete for their clash against Marumo Gallants. The latter, meanwhile, will be without Rowan Mashabela.

In addition, SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo will be sidelined as well, while Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson is also suspended after his altercation with he match official during the MTN8 penalty shootout against Kaizer Chiefs.

Cape Town City coach Byron Mark Cottle is also suspended.

Meanwhile, in the GladAfrica Championship, Aupa Jino Moeketsi (Pretoria Callies), Colin Ryan (Cape Town All Stars), Luyanda Mbeje (TS Sporting) and Royston Rhoda (Steenberg United) will miss the first round of matches.
