Advantage AmaTuks After Win In Cape Town

It is advantage AmaTuks in the DStv Premiership promotional playoffs after they won 3-1 against Cape Town All Stars in the opening match at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

This fixture between the two GladAfrica Championship sides who finished second and third was the first of the round-robin games that also involves Swallows, after their 15th-placed finish in the top flight.

Cape Town All Stars 1-3 AmaTuks

An early chance fell to the visitors but Wonderboy Makhubu’s first-minute header was always going off target.

Justice Figuareido went wide for All Stars in the 14th minute, after some work by Sirgio Kammies down the right to set him up, while their captain Michael Morton shot over four minutes later.

AmaTuks grabbed the lead in the 22nd minute, an excellent goal from Samuel Julies who timed his late run into the box perfectl to get to the end of Sanele Barns’ low cross.

Ayabulela Konqobe’s header was on target in the 27th minute but Tuks goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa was well positioned and saved comfortably.

But Tuks made it 2-0 in the 39th minute, as Thabang Sibanyoni, who was a member of last year’s Bafana Bafana squad at the Cosafa Cup, blasted in after being set up by Makhubu.

Just before half-time Kyle Peters made a big save to deny Singkhi Mpedi, while Keagan Allan couldn’t get a header on target from the resulting corner, and at the break it remained 2-0.

Makhubu could’ve extended Tuks’ lead early in the second half, but hit the woodwork, only for All Stars to pull one back in the 55th minute through Kammies, the industrious former Ajax Cape Town fullback heading in Morton’s cross.

Substitute Kamohelo Pheeane forced a good save from Peters in the 75th minute, the All Stars man diving to his right to deny the powerful effort.

After sustaining a lot of pressure from All Stars for ten minutes, AmaTuks made it 3-, as the hard-working Makubu added to the scoreline in the 83rd minute, heading in Barns’ cross to ensure the result.

AmaTuks host Swallows next Saturday at the Tuks Stadium. However, All Stars, will return to action on Wednesday when they face Swallows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
