Advantage Chippa As Playoffs Get Underway

Chippa United beat Richards Bay 2-1 in the first match in the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

It was the home team with the better chances in the first half, with Peter Maloisane forcing Luther Jacobs into a save in the 20th minute, while seven minutes later Andile Mbenyane’s effort went over the goal. 

In the 30th minute, Mbenyane had an another chance, but this time his long range shot was deflected out. Three minutes later Richards Bay had their first chance, but Khanyisa Mayo’s shot was saved by Rashid Watenga.

At halftime it remained goalless.

But Chippa were in front five minutes into the second half, as Sandile Mthethwa scored the opener against his former team.

Richards Bay began to try get back into the game, and came close in the 65th minute, but Kurt Lentjies was on hand to make a goal line clearance.

Siyabonga Vilane went close for the visitors in the 79th minute, but Watenga pulled off another save to keep Chippa in front.

Three minutes later, it was 2-0 to Chippa as substitute Sizwe Mdlinzo doubled the lead.

Richards Bay pulled a goal back in stoppage time through Paseka Sekese, but it was too late and Chippa got the victory.
