Ex-Liverpool and England Defender Set For AFCON
Former Liverpool and England defender Steven Caulker looks set to make his debut for Sierra Leone at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Caulker, 29, was touted as one of the best defenders in England when he graduated from Tottenham Hotspurs’ academy but went on to make a name for himself in Wales with Swansea and Cardiff City.
His form at the latter earned him a €11-million (R198m) transfer to then free-spending Queens Park Rangers before stints with Southampton, Liverpool, Dundee and now a foray into Turkey followed.
Caulker was a mainstay in the England U-19 and U-20 squads and represented Great Brittain at the 2012 Olympics shortly before his senior Three Lions debut under Roy Hodgson at the age of 20.
But that was his only cap for the England senior national team and a decade later he’s been cleared to represent the country of his fathers’ birth, the Leone Stars.
