Burkina Faso captain Bertrand Traore has labelled their Covid-19 test outcomes as a ‘scandal’ ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations opener.
The Aston Villa player believes they were given antigenic tests instead of the PCR tests as per the tournament regulations—and he demanded them to be redone.
After Friday’s tests, the outcomes revealed that five players and some members of the technical teams—including the head coach, were Covid-19 positive.
“It’s a scandal, we cannot be deprived of first team players 24 hours before the match,” Traore said ahead of the game, as per Soccer24.
“We waited all day, at the beginning it was in the morning that we had to pass these tests, then it was postponed to the afternoon.
“Finally, it was during the night that we did the tests, and they were not PCR tests, they were antigenic tests. The authorities must review the organization. We cannot accept this decision. We can redo tests of our positive players.”
The Stallions are set to take on hosts Cameroon today later at 18:00 at Stade Omnisport Paul Biya Olembé Stadium.
