AmaZulu & Gallants End Goalless
AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants played to a goalless draw in their rescheduled DStv Premiership game at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The match was played today, after being abandoned after ten minutes yesterday due to clashing kits. After yesterday’s confusion, and while Usuthu were the home team, they wore their white away kit for today’s encounter.
AmaZulu 0-0 Marumo Gallants
It was Gallants who had the first chance of the game, in the sixth minute, as Thabo Mnyamane’s free kick forced a save from Veli Mothwa.
Thapelo Xoki had a chance for Usuthu from a corner in the 12th minute, but couldn’t get over the ball and his header looped over the goal.
Sibusiso Kumalo tried a long range effort in the 20th minute, but it went wide of Mothwa’s goal, while two minutes later Mothwa had to be quick to tip Sede Dion’s attempted cross-come-shot, with the ball going on to hit the crossbar. Mothwa made another save in the 28th minute to deny a header from Mnyamane.
But when half-time came, the score remained goalless.
Siyethemba Sithebe went close to open the scoring in the 46th minute, but his attempted lob over an advancing Washington Arubi was just over the goal.
Both teams continued to look for a goal, and turned to their benches to find the breakthrough.
Gallants’ substitute Celimpilo Ngema was on target in the 70th minute, but his shot went straight to Mothwa.
Sphesihle Maduna, who came on for AmaZulu, forced a saved out of Arubi in the 80th minute, with a good glancing header, while Mnyamane’s corner kick four minutes later struck the crossbar directly.
While there was a stoppage time call from Lehlohonolo Majoro for a penalty, the referee wasn’t interested, and after 94 minutes neither team were able to find a goal and it ended goalless.
