AmaZulu Welcome Ntshangase For Assessment

Phumlani Ntshangase is another player that has made his way in to try his luck with AmaZulu after a failed attempt to sign Stellenbosch hardman Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

With that option gone, they have welcomed Ntshangase, who was recently training with Maritzburg United and featured during the KZN Premier’s Cup two weeks ago.

The former United captain featured in the semi-final of the same competition where Zipho Dlangalala’s side lost 2-1 to Usuthu.

But Ntshangane, the way he went about his business, impressed the AmaZulu hierarchy to invite him for close assessment.

Usuthu are desperate for a strong number six in the same mould of Makhehleni Makhaula, who was an inspirational captain and left the club in the January transfer window to join Orlando Pirates.

He left a huge hole and it was clear as they struggled in the second of last season, winning only three league matches and escaping the relegation axe as they finished 12th in the DStv Premiership table with 33 points.

Ntshangase, who is now 28 years old, has some pedigree about him having won the league title with Bidvest Wits in the 2016/17 season and the MTN8 also in the same season.

In the following campaign, Ntshangase with coach Gavin Hunt, added the Telkom Knockout.

New coach Pablo Franco Martin said what happened last season was not acceptable and the club needed to beef up the squad including adding a centre forward to compete with top teams.

Cijimpi, as Martin is known, is also not entirely impressed with his current squad and is still looking to beef up in certain positions.

According to the sources, 14 players Cijimpi has been impressed with and the rest have to step in their intensity and fitness or they won’t be part of his team this coming season.

One of them who has been told that he is not part of Usuthu set up is striker Gabadinho Mhango and his agent Mike Makaab said they are in talks with Usuthu to see how best the situation can be sorted out soon.

Makaab confirmed on social media earlier this week that the Malawi international has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs and they are awaiting a final decision from the club.

Usuthu will open the 2023/24 season against Royal AM, who they lost in the pre-season tournament – Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup this past weekend, at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday (17:30).
