SuperSport United and Amajita midfielder Oswin Appollis, who is currently on loan at AmaTuks, says he jumped at the chance to go on loan to get more playing time under his belt.
The Cape Town-born 19-year-old was speaking in Edition 13 of iDiski Times to Rob Delport, who first saw Appollis play as a 15-year-old for Ajax Cape Town.
The teenage Amajita star, who made two appearances for SuperSport this season before heading on loan, has started well at Tuks, and has a goal and an assist in his five appearances so far for the GladAfrica Championship side.
“Well first of all I’m happy to get game time and I’m very happy to be playing football again at Tuks,” Appollis told iDiski Times.
“Great staff members and the coach, he is a very good person and helps me a lot. And the teammates are also very nice since the first day I arrived, very friendly!”
Appollis had been one of SuperSport’ stars in the Diski Challenge, and so last year, with the competition shut down, it meant he missed out on playing time. Fortunately he was included in Kaitano Tembo’s first team squad before the loan, so did get to train regularly.
“Yes, it has been a difficult yearafter the MDC got shut down because that platform was good for me for game time.”
“But yes, it has been encouraging to be part of the first team, and to get to train and play some games there. Yes, even though game time was limited, I waited and waited to play, and that made me stronger and train more hard.”
Appollis says that he jumped at the chance to go on loan to Tuks, because he feels it’s important at his age to be playing regularly.
“Yes, me and Coach Tembo did talk about the loan, and I told him yes it would be good to go on loan.”
“It’s very important at my age to play more, because if you watch in Europe, football age doesn’t matter there; 19 and 20 year olds are playing regular first team football, week in and week out.”
