Arendse Praises SSU After Tshwane Derby

SuperSport United assistant coach Andre Arendse was full of praise for his troops despite a 1-0 loss to arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

During the Tshwane Derby in Atteridgeville, Matsatsantsa had to take it without some regular players and head coach Kaitano Tembo due to Covid-19 related as well as injuries.

However, Arendse who was in charge on the day had encouraged and praised the players for showing good performance and standing out for the team during this difficult moment.

“There’s a lot to talk about, with lots of moments in the game, but all that aside, the result aside for a second, I have got to commend the players,” Arendse said in the post-match press conference.

“We have asked them to compete in this game today, as under strength as we were going into the game, with some notable names missing from the starting line-up.

“We asked them to compete, they did that with no arguments, no excuses. And sometimes results will go through, sometimes it won’t, just speaking to the guys after the game, it’s a bitter pill to swallow because I thought we deserve something out of it, just for effort alone.

“So very, very, happy with the performances of everyone. I think everybody gave their all to the extent that we literally had to make substitutions because there were injuries and we have got to prevent those things and so very, very proud of the performance of the guys tonight.”

Their fifth defeat of the league campaign saw them drop to fifth and 15 points off the league leaders Masandawana.
