Broos – Why Dolly Didn’t Start Vs Ghana
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why in-form Kaizer Chiefs winger did not start the game against Ghana on Sunday.
Dolly rejoined Bafana after his superb start to the season with Amakhosi and featured in the 1-0 win over Zimbabwe, assisting Teboho Mokoena’s goal.
However, he found himself only on the bench in the final Group G match against the Black Stars, with Broos insisting it was a “technical” decision.
“You look at the opponent and you have a plan,” Broos told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM.
“You start putting players on a sheet of paper to execute the plan and you have to make choices.
“I made choices, that is all. It has nothing to do with good or bad playing or whatever.
“I just wanted to have the strongest team to play against Ghana because I knew it would be a totally different game than the game against Zimbabwe.”
Ghana ended up winning the game 1-0, which lead to Bafana dropping into second place on the log and missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
However, SAFA have since lodged an official complaint with FIFA and the world football mother body have confirmed they are looking into the game.
