How SAFA Reacted To GFA’s FIFA Letter

By Velile Mnyandu

While the South African Football Association (SAFA) are awaiting the direction from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on the Ghana vs Bafana Bafana match, CEO Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe has laughed off the offensive statements from the Ghanaian Football Association.

SAFA have lodged an official protest to FIFA, accusing Senegalese match official Maguette Ndiaye of match-fixing and match-manipulation, with FIFA acknowledging the receipt of the complaint.

The football mother body also requested input from the Ghanaian side and the GFA submitted that SAFA did not follow proper procedures in filing their protest to FIFA and therefore, they are calling for the world’s football mother body to dismiss this case and direct a heavy fine to Nasrec.

But this has been laughed off by SAFA CEO Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe, whose previous job was the Senior Legal Manager at the FA, and dealt with a number of similar cases that were reported to FIFA by clubs and other members of SAFA.

Motlanthe also reminded that in this particular case, they are not protesting a particular decision in the game, like a penalty, but have reported the overall performance of a match official in accordance with article 18 of the FIFA statutes, which deal with match manipulation and officiating bias.

A member of the FIFA DC would be making some considerations and coming up with the decision, based on the documents that have been submitted by the two member associations. iDiski Times understands that if there is a need for some oral hearings, this would also be communicated to the parties involved.

The FIFA DC are expected to announce their verdict on the matter during the course of this week, with it being officially looked into by them on Tuesday, 23 November.

Meanwhile, the draw for the play-offs of the World Cup is expected to be held in Qatar on 18 December, with the games scheduled for March 2022. Only five African countries will represent the continent in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December.
