Makgopa Opens Up On Bafana Goal

Bafana Bafana striker Evidence Makgopa revealed what made him score easily when they played against Ethiopia on Saturday and also opened up on his upbringings in rural Limpopo.

The Baroka goal-poacher came off the bench to net South Africa’s third goal in their victory over Ethiopia.

Hugo Broos’ men beat Ethiopia in an away game in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at Bahir Dar Stadium to take their tally to seven points in group G.

Makgopa later explained that he analysed the Ethiopian centre-back pairing to expose their weakness once he had taken to the pitch.

“First I can see when I was on the bench, I was able to analyse which one I can go to him, I mean in the two centre-backs,” he told Bafana’s media department.

“So luckily enough when I got into the pitch, so that’s what happened. Lucky enough, I find myself in the right position at the right time.”

The 21-year-old also said there is good combination in the team despite playing for different teams in their respective leagues.

“I come from a small rural area, a place called GaMampa, at Limpopo,”

“So that place is more pleased but I think I showed everyone that everything is possible in life.

“You just have to keep on going. Believe on yourself. I think even young boys that are looking up for us as an inspiration or idols, they can take that, and say ja, ‘if Makgopa can do it, we also can do it’.”

Bafana Bafana will now welcome the East-African country at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday at 18:00.
