Ronwen Williams has revealed he got Kylian Mbappe’s shirt after Bafana Bafana’s 5-0 drubbing against France, while Fagrie Lakay even got the superstar’s pants.
Bafana were beaten 5-0 by the world champions, with Mbappe scoring a brace, while Olivier Giroud, Wissam Ben Yedder and Matteo Guendozi were also on the score sheet.
After the game, some Bafana players were seen taking pictures with their counterparts and Williams – who was South Africa’s standout player, making 11 saves – has confirmed he managed to swap shirts with Mbappe.
“I was lucky to get the superstar’s jersey, I got Mbappe’s jersey,” he told Bafana’s media department.
“Fagrie Lakay got the pants and I saw all the photos of Mbappe without the fans.
“I mean they’re so humble, so nice. Very nice people, the things you read about them, I mean [N’Golo] Kante. We enjoyed it.”
Williams also stated that Mbappe is his favourite player in the France and praised all of their opponents for their humble attitude.
“We all knew what Mbappe could do, but now seeing it first hand, it is amazing. It is crazy how good he is,” he added.
“He does everything at such a high level, and I don’t think I have seen anyone so rapid, so quick and he’s in control, he’s still in control of the ball.
“All of them, I mean they’re superstars. Just look at [Paul] Pogba, he comes in, his presence. He just oozes confidence, everything looks so easy to him but that’s the level they play at.”
