Barker – It’s Always Nice To Play In Derby Matches

Stellenbosch Head Coach Steve Barker says he is looking forward to the derby against Cape Town City on Saturday, and says they are always hard fought encounters.

The two teams meet in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon, and it is the fourth derby between the two clubs in the top flight.

Barker has been in charge of all the previous encounters, while this will Jan Olde Riekerink’s third match, with Benni McCarthy in charge the first time the two met.

City have won two of the previous matches, including their last meeting, while Stellies were victorious in one game.

Barker says it has been a disappointing season for his team so far, but this could the ideal opportunity to turn their season around.

“Ja, no, we looking forward to the derby I think it’s always nice to play in derby matches, all previous encounters with Cape Town City have been really tight affairs, hard fought affairs,” Barker told Stellenbosch media.

“We’ve had the upperhand, they’ve had the upperhand so ja, looking forward to a really important match for us.”

“It’s an opportunity for us to get our season back on track, we’re not happy with where we are in the league and the season thus far. So it’s a great opportunity for us to turn things.”

“The mood in the camp has been really good. You know, our game against Sundowns had been postponed, so it’s given us a bit of extra time to just work on certain things.”

“Refresh the brain, the mind, refresh the body, so ja all in all looking very good for the weekend.”
