Stellenbosch Coach Steve Barker is hoping for Stellenbosch to end the year on a good note, when they take on Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening.
Both teams go into this game on the back of defeats, after Stellenbosch lost the Western Cape derby 2-1 to Cape Town City, while Maritzburg, suffered a 2-0 loss to Swallows.
Maritzburg, who brought in Ernst Middendorp last month to replace Eric Tinkler, are in 16th place with just a point, while Stellenbosch are 9th with 8 points.
Barker knows that Maritzburg will be a tough opponent, as they desperately seek their first win of the season.
“Yah, any team is tough, so that cliche of tough team, they’re all tough in the league,” Barker said ahead of Friday’s game.
“Yah we have to go there and apply ourselves. We let ourselves down a bit (against City), but we can still finish (the year) on a positive note this Friday.”
“We have to go there and put in a big performance.”
