Barker – We Showed Great Resilience

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker was pleased with how his team bounced back, after their heavy defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last week, to get the win against TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

It was TS Galaxy’s first defeat of the season, and Dan Malesela’s team drop down to ninth on the table after the loss.

Barker says it was a really hard fought game though, and both sides played to win.

“Yah, obviously pleased with the result, it looked to be an entertaining game, I think both sides fought really hard, you know, both wanted to get a victory,” Barker said after the match.

“And I think we showed great resilience, from not our best showing last week, to come back and show good commitment throughout the game.”

Stellenbosch suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Sundowns last week.

“The players really fought hard, and I think we deserved the victory,” Barker continued.

“We created the better chances throughout the game, although they did have moments of having possession, I felt that we handed that decently enough, and we always looked dangerous once we sort of went on transition and counter attacked them.”

Stellenbosch’s new Nigerian recruit Stanley Dimgba came off the bench to grab the winner with a great shot in the 83rd minute.

“Yah, probably it looked like maybe the game might go out to a draw and it needed something special, and obviously a really good goal from Stanley Dimgba, so very pleased for him.”

The result sees Stellenbosch climb up to eighth spot on the table

“So yah, all round very happy with the performance, happy with the result, and we’ve just got to keep moving forward.”
