Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says Sabelo ‘Bibo’ Radebe was running around like a headless chicken on his first day in training but now has a real chance to feature regularly for the club.
Radebe has made two appearances for the club so far after coming through the club’s youth ranks and MDC team.
He impressed many during the Carling Black Label Cup, with many fans asking for Bibo to be a regular in the team this season.
Baxter has explained that the player still has a lot learn but has surprised him in training so far.
“In terms of Bibo… When I first came, his training the first day was wretched, he was all over the place, he was running around like a headless chicken,” he told reporters.
“That’s when I took him and spoke to him, because he wanted to impress the new coach as much as he could.
“He is a gifted player, he does have a lot of talent. We’ve all seen a lot of talent of players in the past that don’t make it, for various reasons.
“But Bibo, I’ve got to say, between that day, let’s call that day the Pirates game, and now, he got down to some work, he wanted to play within the structure of the team. He wanted to play with other players and not only be an individualist and his progress has been excellent.
“I don’t like sitting here and say ‘people are going to play 20 or 30 games’ because lots of things can dictate that – injuries, form and whatever.
“But Bibo has certainly surprised me with his progress and I hope he continues that progress because if he does then he’ll be a strong candidate.”
