Stuart Baxter has explained why Kaizer Chiefs changed their system as well as the absence of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
The Amakhosi coach recently explained that he wanted to try to accommodate Ncobo, but he missed Tuesday evening’s game due to a bacterial infection.
Baxter also added that he switched to five defenders in their goalless draw against Cape Town City order to create more width via his side’s wing-backs.
“Well, we changed our shape because looking at the setup of Cape Town City, we thought the playing with that extreme width that the wing-backs Reeve [Frosler] and Rama [Mphahlele] would give us that would be better,” Baxter said.
“We change personnel a little bit, we wanted a little bit of fresh legs. Mshini has got a bacterial infection so he couldn’t play.
“We sort of created a little role for Mshini, because he’s been doing so well in that little number 10 in the pocket role, so we we went away from that today.
“So I think all in all the changes had a positive effect. But when you don’t win the game, you’re not completely happy.”
The draw saw Chiefs climb into third spot by virtue of the better goal difference over Royal AM.
