Baxter Gives Chiefs Injury Update

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has given an update about which players are out injured and who could replace the suspended S’fiso Hlanti.

The Englishman has come under a little pressure after Amakhosi started their campaign with just five points from five games.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash with AmaZulu, Baxter has confirmed that Leonardo Castro and Samir Nurkovic remain sidelined, while Phathutshedzo Nange should be available for selection.

“Leonardo Castro is back from Colombia and should be back in 4-5 weeks. Samir had his operation this week, which went well, and so we hope that won’t be too long as well,” he told the club’s media department.

“Nange, we are hoping will be back in the frame, that will be a plus for us.

“Lebo (Manyama) I pushed him a little bit too quickly I think. He was very good in training and he made everybody very optimistic that he was clinically fit, but whether he was ready to start that was a little bit of a mismatch. But he’s looked good in training and will be back very soon.

Baxter also explained that he is looking at Sibusiso Mabiliso or Reeve Frosler will likely come in for the suspended Hlanti at left-back.

“We’ve got our injuries. It will allow me to look at different combinations, finding out what we can and what we can’t do and who’s ready and who’s not ready,” he added.

“We will have a look and we will solve that. We have options. We have (Sibusiso) Mabiliso, who is ready to step up. We have Reeve Frosler that could move across to the left hand side, so we will make a decision closer to the game.

The 68-year-old has a 100% win record against AmaZulu as Chiefs coach but believes it will be another tough encounter for his side on Saturday.

“AmaZulu have some good players. They were successful last year,” he explained.

“They’re also struggling a little bit to get back to where they were, but they will be a difficult one to crack, especially away from home.”
