Baxter On Downs Defeat

Stuart Baxter has commented on his side’s defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, insisting the result was not a true reflection of the game.

The Glamour Boys suffered their first defeat in the league this season, going down 2-0 to the reigning DStv Premiership champions.

Baxter saw his side lose 2-0 on the night after Grant Kekana and Peter Shalulile scored for Downs, while Lebogang Manyama missed a penalty.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a game against Sundowns where were as dominant as this evening.

“The goal came out of the blue, it was their first chance.

“We then played passively for 15 minutes, which is understandably after you start so well and concede.

“I thought we got back into the game last 15 minutes of first half. Second half, we started well again and then the second goal came. The second goal kills the game and it forces me to make changes.

“Back to back four instead of a back three, we got a penalty and we missed a penalty. We end the game losing 2-0 which I think is not a true reflection of the performance.”
