Benni Issues Transfer Plea Ahead Of January Window

AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy says he’s going to need new players if they are to improve in 2022.

After Usuthu defied odds by finishing as runners-up to champions Mamelodi Sundowns last season and qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stage – it appears they have now been found wanting in the league.

Out of the 20 games played, they’ve drawn 12 this season and only won five – which the Bafana Bafana legend feels is unacceptable for his lofty standards.

“I’m desperate for new faces, I’m desperate for refreshments in the team and quality players,” McCarthy told the media after the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Orlando Pirates.

“You can see, 12 draws is not normal for any team. When you play the way that we play, we play expansive football where you want to dominate the opposition, and we manage to do so, but the final third is where we disappoint ourselves.

“From those 12 draws, I think three or four of them were in cases where we maybe didn’t deserve to win, but it’s eight too many draws for my liking and for what we want to achieve as a football club.

“We have thrown away too many points this season and I think we are going to rue our misses come the end of the season.”
