Benni Might Give Youngsters A Chance
With second place in the DStv Premiership secured, AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy says their final game against Maritzburg United could be the perfect opportunity to give a few younger and fringe players a chance.
McCarthy says his first choice players have had a busy schedule, and he wouldn’t mind resting a few, and it’s a chance for a few of the others in the squad who have played lesser roles.
Usuthu’s under-21 team also won the DStv Diski Challenge, and McCarthy feels he may even like to give a few of those stars a chance if he can.
“Obviously, for us, very important, every game matters, every game we participate in, we hope that the players will bring the best of themselves, make a good account, and do the very best to try and win the games,” McCarthy told the club’s media department.
“But since we are clear second place, and we guaranteed an nothing can happen, it might be also the perfect opportunity, to give some of the fringe players another opportunity to get some game time.
“Last game of the season, just to also feel that they’ve been very much part of all the hard work, they might not have been as fortunate to have been played in so many of the games, but now it’s a perfect opportunity to give them and also to see some of the young players, coming through from the MDC.
“So they’ve just won the Diski Challenge, champions, so to reward them with a couple of minutes here and there, it’s nice, and it’s in no way of form or shape in any way, disrespectful to the league or to the opposition, but for me to just be able to have that opportunity now, where you can make changes and give the guys that played consecutive games back-to-back-to-back-to-back a little breather and play some of the other players who’s not been as fortunate.
“So I’ll be trying to do that and hoping that we’ll try and still put out the strongest team possible that can go and compete and that will just not surrender. Since it is still a KZ derby. We still want to go out there fighting and and wearing the honours and the badge with pride.”
