Benni Sends Messages To Sundowns & Pitso

AmaZulu Head Coach Benni McCarthy has sent a message to Mamelodi Sundowns as well as Pitso Mosimane ahead of Masandawana’s clash against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Sundowns are in Cairo this weekend where they will face Ahly, who are of course coached by former Masandawana coach Pitso Mosimane.

McCarthy has led his AmaZulu team to second in the DStv Premiership, and if they can maintain their position over the last few games, they will qualify for next season’s Champions League.

But for now McCarthy says he is fully behind Sundowns, and wants them to conquer Africa.

“Listen, they’re the pride of the nation,” McCarthy told the media.

“They’re flying the South African flag high in the Champions League.

“So ja, personally, and as a team AmaZulu, we [are] fully behind them when they play in Africa. We support them, because they represent us.

“And we want them to do exceptionally well. We hope that they can go all the way to the final because that just proves the strength that the DStv Premier League has, the calibre of teams that we face every week in the league. And now we can go out there on the continent and conquer.

“So ja, we want Sundowns to conquer. And we wish them all the very best from AmaZulu Football Club, and we wish them good luck against Al Ahly.”

McCarthy expects a tricky game against Mosimane, and while he’ll be happy to see the successful coach back in the country for the second leg, all niceties will have to wait until after the games are played.

“We know it’s not the easiest game. It’s against somebody that knows them very, very well, coach Pitso,” he added

“Coach Pitso, we looking forward to seeing you back on South African shores, but unfortunately, now you’re representing Al Ahly, the Egyptians, and Sundowns is Mzansi, so our support and everything, we [are] behind Sundowns all the way so yep, but after the game coach, we happy and we welcome you back to South Africa.”
