Broos Disappointed With Bafana Loss, Criticises Ref

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has reacted to his side’s sad loss against Ghana, saying he wasn’t happy with the officiating.

Broo’s men were unfortunate not to qualify for the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers after a 1-0 loss to the Black Stars at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.

South Africa are now second in the group G, with equally points with Ghana, but separated buy the goal-difference rules.

“I congratulate Ghana but I congratulate my boss also because we played against a very aggressive opponent and the referee allowed them,” he said, as cited by Ghanaian journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo.

“I am very disappointed in the result but I’m proud of my players. But I have to say, the referee today allowed Ghana to be too aggressive.

“I have nothing against aggressive play but it has to be legal aggression.”

When asked about the controversial penalty, Broos admitted that he couldn’t see the incident properly to make a judgement.

“It’s difficult to see from where I was – I just saw the player on the ground and the referee whistled for a penalty. I don’t know whether it was a penalty or not; I don’t know.”
