Hugo Broos has explained he snubbed Luther Singh from his Bafana Bafana squad because he had some passport issue last time around, questioning the players attitude.

The Belgian tactician cut his 34-man preliminary squad to 23 players for the double header against Ethiopia in October.

One of the notable absentees from the squad was Singh, with Broos revealing he wasn’t happy about his passport issues, which also saw him get limited game time over the last few weeks.

“Luther Singh is a problem in that way, that after the games his passport was not valid anymore,” he said on SABC Sport.

“So he stayed here (in South Africa) for 10 days until his (new) passport was valid. He went to Copenhagen, he to be in quarantine a little bit, I think.

“So he wasn’t with the team last week, he played 10 minutes yesterday. I think he will not be ready to play that game in Ethiopia.”

Broos was then asked why Njabulo Ngcobo was in the squad despite having played very little at Kaizer Chiefs so far, explaining that attitude is very important to him.

“This has something to do with attitude also,” Broos added.

“You know that your passport is not valid anymore, you know it months before, months before!

“The same thing in the 34 players (preliminary squad) happened with Pule Mmodi. We contact him, (but he says) ‘oh I don’t have a passport’.

“I can’t select him, he doesn’t have a valid passport. This is an attitude you need to have as a professional player.

“And for Luther Singh, you know it months before that your passport is not valid anymore. So why wait until the last day.

“Then you lose 10 days and then you come in your club again and the coach is not happy because you are 10 days too late and you don’t play.

“You need to have a professional attitude also. So I hope he learned a lot from this.”
