‘I Heard Tau Will Join Pitso’s Al Ahly’

Hugo Broos has all but confirmed Percy Tau’s transfer to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly.

The Bafana Bafana coach announced his final 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana on Tuesday.

During the announcement, he also spoke about Tau’s future, saying that he heard the winger’s transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to Al Ahly seems a done deal.

“He is an important player for Bafana Bafana,” Broos said on SABC Sport.

“But again, if Percy does not play in the next months, I have a problem.

“But I heard some good news, I think he will not stay in Brighton and he will go to the Egyptian team with the South African coach Pitso, Al Ahly.

“I think in the next days it will be done and then he will have a chance to play, so there will be a problem less for the future.”

Broos also said that the issue of players not paying gave him major selection headaches.

“This was another problem for my selection, because many players don’t play, also here in the national league,” he explained.

“We had a list of players and every time I went with my list of players to league games, players I want to scout for Bafana Bafana, but out of eight names on my list only two were playing. Some weren’t even on the bench.

“It is a problem here in Africa. Some clubs have an excessive number of players in their squad and they can’t give them the chance to play. So for the future that can be a problem for me because now every player went through pre-season preparation, so normally they are ok.

“But in two months, if they don’t play, I have a problem. I hope in the next months, some players will play.”
