Broos Names His Bafana Squad

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named his first official squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers next month.

The 69-year-old who was named as Molefi Ntseki’s replacement in May is yet to actually led the national team, and will begin his job officially in the matches against Zimbabwe and Ghana.

Bafana are however unbeaten since Broos’ appointment, with assistant Helman Mkhalele leading the team to a victory over Uganda in a friendly international, while Morena Ramorebodi stood in during the Cosafa Cup success, with Mhkalele side-lined after a positive Covid-19 test.

Broos and his other assistant Cedomir Janevski, were in attendance at last weekend’s MTN8 game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

Broos announced 31 players in his preliminary squad, which will be cut down to 23 players before the games.

“We based our selection on COSAFA, I saw all the games, even though I wasn’t here. It helped me a lot,” he said.

“Also the Olympics, even though it didn’t go like we expected. The MTN8 Cup, we visited three games. And last the performances of the players in the past with Bafana.”
