Broos Praises Bafana Star

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has praised goalkeeper Ronwen Williams for his performance against Ethiopia.

South Africa collected an important 3-1 win in Ethiopia on Saturday but had to survive some scares in the first half, when Williams had to make two great saves.

As a consequence, Broos was full of praise for the goalkeeper and also insisted that it is difficult to prevent opponents from creating chances for the full 90 minutes.

“You can’t play a perfect game, it’s impossible,” he told reporters.

“At some moments in the game, you make not a mistake but you’re not good positioned or whatever.

“In those two cases, we were not in a good position. But that can happen over 90 minutes.

“Against Ghana we did it. Ronwen could’ve read the newspaper during 90 minutes, but you can’t do every time a game like that.

“But again it was not easy, the bad pitch, a good opponent. There are moments you will give chances to the opponent and therefor it is very important that you have a good goalkeeper.

“The spine of your team has to be very strong, with the goalkeeper, central defenders, central midfield and the guy in front, who scores. If you have that you have a good team.

“Ronwen has showed us that we can count on him, very good for us and I’m not angry and not nervous because we gave two chances to them.”

Bafana take on Ethiopia again on Tuesday when they could take an important step towards topping their FIFA World Cup qualification group.
