Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he included Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare in his squad.
The Bafana Bafana mentor came out to explain the reason on selecting the 32-year-old Monare despite his age and also the importance of having him in the squad.
Broos went on to say he doesn’t care much about the age of the players his selects.
South Africa will face Guinea and France in the upcoming international friendlies.
“Well I wanted to see from a midfielder who’s playing in that position,” Broos said on SABCSport on Monday.
“Thabang Monare is also aggressive in his way of playing even if his not a big man, but he’s very good and do well. He is also a player, he can play football, his passes are very good so this is what we need and what we looking for in that position.
“And I said always when I came here everybody said you want younger players, the old ones you don’t want anymore, and I said hold on the door is not close for all the players.
“If one day we have two players with same quality the young one and the old one, I will take the young one but if the older one is better I will take the older one, I will not shoot myself.
“So therefore Monare is 32 years old but I see him playing, so for me he’s not 32-years-old and his age is not important, age is not important. What’s important is what he shows on the field and that’s why I took some old players”
